Everything except areas around monuments are considered to be the PvE zone. This is where you build, harvest resources, traverse through the landscape, unexpectedly run in to a scientist, and get mauled by bears.
In contrast to a PvP zone, aggressive actions against other players are strongly discouraged within the PvE zone. A pattern of unprompted attacks within the PvE zone is grounds for a ban, so proceed carefully. Situational ethics suggests that there are exceptions to this general rule, however. Some examples of exceptions are the following:
Use your judgement and consider the other players' enjoyment. If a player flees into the PvE zone from a fight you initiated in a PvP zone, maybe let them get away even if it is allowed to keep shooting. If you meet someone in the PvE zone that you just fought and want to resume the fight - fire a couple warning shots or communicate using general chat.
Areas around monuments are considered to be the PvP zones. Monuments have better item spawns, some of them hidden behind access card puzzles. Some monuments are also protected by NPCs. Due to the potential higher rewards there are also higher risks.
Since monuments are a high risk area players are allowed to PvP indiscriminately at these locations. This doesn't mean you should be camping with an AK and killing every naked that runs into a Supermarket, however. The risk should follow the tier of the monument, so if your 5 person clan wish to camp, each carrying a 4x L96 to shoot everything that moves, please do this at places like Launch site or Military tunnels and not at an Oxum's gas station.
Players might leave PvP areas mid fight - either stepping out accidentally to take cover behind a rock or fleeing the engagement altogether. If it is obvious they are fleeing it is allowed to keep firing bullets/arrows, but avoid doing so if you were the one being aggressive and instigating the fight. Maybe they just wanted to recycle and never be part of an altercation.
When leaving a PvP zone after having killed someone they are allowed a short retaliation period of a couple of minutes to come back. If you still are close to the PvP area during this period, and you haven't told them that you left all their stuff; watch your back.
A raid consists of two or more parties where one party - the defenders - owns a structure, potentially containing gear and resources, and some other party - the attackers - wanting to take it as loot. This section will focus on defenders and attackers. For information about being a third party in a raid, see the rules for counter-raiding.
Since this is mostly a friendly server there are some limitation on raiding. The rules specified in this section are in place to protect the defenders and their base. If the defenders wish to knowingly waive these rules they are free to do so. Unless explicitly waived by the defenders beforehand these rules applies until the last 20 hours of the wipe. These are examples of when waiving the raiding rules could be interesting:
Attacker Limitation - when heading off to do a raid only one or two players are allowed to participate on the side of the attackers, no matter how large either team is.
Right of Ownership - anything greater than a 2x2 with an airlock must not be taken over or griefed. (If you like the 2x2 formfactor, just add some honeycomb or compound walls.) If you've gained control over the base you may seal it with one single door per opening to the base to secure your looting. Anything more and the original owner might have a lot of trouble taking back the base. Imaginary bonus points are rewarded if you use a code lock and give the code to the original owner. Griefing includes unnecessary despawning of items from containers, replacing doorways with solid walls, placing high external walls just to be annoying, etc.
Right of Parlay - the defenders may ask for parlay in general chat. When this happens all aggression must seize from the defenders, attackers, and any counter-raiders. No fighting or repairing/building may be done until the parlay is complete. The parlay takes place outside the base - or within the compound if the compound has been breached. All currently present parties must attend if they don't want to leave the raid. The defenders may try to negotiate with the attackers, set a time limit for the raid, or bribe any counter-raiders to join their side. All negotiations must be complete at most 5 minutes after parlay has been called. Unless all parties has come to a peaceful agreement when the parlay end everyone has 30 seconds to get ready before any building or hostilities continue. Knowingly breaking the rules of parlay - or the agreements made during one - are grounds for a ban.
Offline Protection - your bases are under damage protection when all members of your team are offline. There is a slight delay so you can't just log out the instance you hear the beeping of a C4 and expect your base to be fine. After the grace period the base is protected with a decreasing strength for about a week after which your base is no longer protected from damage at all.
Counter-raiding is when a third party, not affiliated with either the attackers or the defenders, jumps into the fray during a raid. Counter-raiders may just want to snag some gear from the first person they shoot and run off, wish to kill the current primary attackers to continue the raid themselves, or help to defend the base by shooting or distracting the raiders. For general information about being a party in a raid, see the rules for raiding.
Similarly to when raiding, when counter-raiding you may do it solo or join with one other person. When approaching the raid you may write in general chat if you join the defense. If you don't claim to join the defense you may not create an alliance with any other party and all other groups are your enemy.
If you are hiding next to someone's base waiting for them to go out and surprise them you are a rat (and not the cute kind of rat). This is allowed if you are currently raiding or wish to start off an online raid with the defense dead. Door camping without the intention to start a raid within a few minutes is not allowed after being asked to leave.
If you sit on your roof trying to snipe roaming players you are subject to the PvE rules, unless you are currently in a raid or defending against someone coming to start a raid.
What to I mean by glamping? It is camping but you're not really out in the wilderness. You've built a base and are camping within it. Maybe you are standing under your bear rug you've attached to the ceiling of the 2x1 you've built next to Dome just for this purpose waiting for someone to take potshots at. Maybe you add an autoturret so you just can sit in your chair next to the fireplace and just listen to the shots being fired at unsuspecting players. Don't be this person. You are allowed to build autoturrets to protect your base, not to grief roamers. Trap bases are fine, grief bases are not.
